Vital Records

Vital Records

The Town of Hingham's vital records date back to 1635, and include births, deaths and marriages. They are maintained in the Town Clerk's office, with all but impounded records available for viewing or purchase by the general public. Impounded records (i.e., records connected to adoptions or out of wedlock births) are kept under separate cover. Proper identification must be presented to receive a copy of an impounded record.

For more information, contact the Clerk's office at 781-741-1410. Checks should be made payable to the Town of Hingham and mailed to:
Town Clerk
210 Central Street
Hingham, MA 02043

Birth Records

A birth certificate is filed with the Town of Hingham if the parents were residents at the time of the child's birth. You may now pay for birth certificates online through UniBank.
Birth records are also available in the town where the birth took place and at:
Massachusetts Registry Of Vital Statistics
150 Mt. Vernon Street
Dorchester, MA 02125-3105
Phone: 617-740-2600

The Clerk's office supplies certified birth certificates at $10 per copy. These certificates are required when applying for a passport or license, when filing for social security benefits or as a form of identification. We will also supply a photocopy (uncertified) of a birth certificate for $5.

Marriage Records

Certified marriage certificates can be obtained for $10 per copy. If you filed your marriage intentions in Hingham, your certificate would be here. You may now pay for marriage certificates online through UniBank. However, if you were married in Hingham but filed your intentions in another town, you must obtain your certificate from the town where you originally filed, or from the Massachusetts Registry Of Vital Statistics in Dorchester.

Death Records

Certified death certificates can be obtained for $10 per copy. The Town Clerk's office retains death certificates for persons who were residents of Hingham at the time of their death or for non-residents whose death occurred in Hingham. You may now pay for death certificates online through UniBank.
