[ARCHIVED] Weir River Water System - Update on Discoloration | June 27, 2024

Veolia and Weir River Water System continue to assess the recent discoloration incident. Since the acute surge in demand during last week’s regional heat advisory, clear water has been working its way through the affected areas, replenishing discolored water that was flushed out by our crews working throughout the weekend.

Veolia personnel are currently fielding calls and assisting individual customers who are experiencing issues within their homes.

Source water quality was monitored throughout the event, and samples taken from MassDEP-approved testing locations throughout the system indicate an absence of Coliform. Iron levels were within MassDEP limits. While Manganese levels in two of the ten sites tested were indicative of slight discoloration, results were well below MassDEP levels for any health impacts. Veolia continues to monitor those locations, taking all actions recommended by MassDEP throughout this incident.

WRWS Board of Water Commissioners held a meeting on Wednesday, June 26, at which Veolia and WRWS personnel met with the Citizens Advisory Board and members of the public to review the events associated with this incident–discussing refinements in operations and improvements in communication. Veolia and WRWS personnel held a similar briefing  at The Town of Hull Select Board meeting on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.

The Board of Water Commissioners will reconvene on Tuesday, July 2 to determine any further steps beyond those already taken in response to this incident. Any residents still experiencing discoloration over the next few days should please continue to reach out to WRWS at wrcs@veolia.com.
