Thanks for inquiring about the 50 flags program. The registration is now closed after being open since May 25th. Due to the large amount of logistics involved of coordinating volunteers and installations, it takes several days for the volunteer committee to complete those arrangements.
General Parade Donations can be made at any time and are always appreciated.
50 Flags Campaign for 2022
Hingham's 50 Flags Campaign is on again this year for the 10th consecutive year - with appropriate social distancing, and health & safety precautions. Our inventory is 18,500 flags, and we'd love to see them all flying in Hingham for the 2 weeks around the 4th!
The 50 Flags Campaign is our top fundraising source that helps pay for the annual cost of $55,000 to organize and present Hingham’s 4th of July Parade – including the red, white, and blue lines along the parade route! All of the funds come from fundraisers, sponsorships, and donations; NO TAX DOLLARS ARE ALLOCATED TO THE COSTS OF THE PARADE. The flag installations will be for two weeks, starting the weekend of June 25&26 and removals will be made the weekend of July 9&10, as July 4th falls on a Monday this year.
Flag reservations open on May 25th and close on June 21st. The minimum rental donation is $75 for 50 flags or $45 for 25 flags. Since the Campaign is very labor intensive, we rely on volunteers from the Hingham High School sports teams: football, girls soccer, field hockey, track and crew. Also, South Shore SNAP, Hingham Youth Football, and town citizens help install and remove the flags.
80% of the gross proceeds from your generous flag rental donations will go towards growing our flag inventory, while funding the 2022 July 4th Parade. The balance will go to the volunteer youth groups that complete the installations and removals of the flags: $5,600 in 2021.
